Onomotopoeia
onomotopoeia
n
the formation of a word by imitation of a sound.
onomotopoetic adj.
:D
onomotopoeia is my favourite word as a word. it doesn't come up in conversation much.
i'm onomotopoetic, among other things. nope. not a good conversation starter.
onomotopoeia means that the word itself sounds like what it is, for example 'boom' sounds like a boom, and 'swish' sounds like swishing. hiss sounds like hissing, swoosh and whoosh, hiss, sift - these are all onomotopoetic words. . when you combine alliteration, which is the repition of the first letter or the stressed syllable, you get a multi sensory experience from the words.
The tumbling turbulence torments
tormenting tumbling turbulence.
silently swishing seas upon the shore
totally different. i like to combine onomotopoeia and alliteration for great one liners.
it only works for one sentencers, you can't write a novel like that.
